Program Overview

BellyFire’s Summer Ceramics Program is more than an arts and crafts camp. It’s a hands-on introduction to ceramics for kids and teens who are ready to work with real clay in a real studio! Campers learn foundational skills, get their hands dirty, and experience what it feels like to take an idea from start to finish—and feel proud of the result.

Each summer, we reflect on what worked, what challenged campers, and how we can make the experience better for both kids and parents. As the program has grown, so has our commitment to thoughtful improvement and deeper learning.

For Summer 2026, that means a project-based format. Instead of lots of small projects, campers spend the week focused on one larger, more intentional piece—such as a jar, vase, tea set, or other functional or sculptural form(s) —giving them time to plan, problem-solve, and fully invest in their work or series.

Campers are encouraged to explore themes they’re excited about—like Louisiana wildlife, the ocean, space, fantasy, the four elements, or Holidays Around the World, etc—through the lens of their main project.

Campers learn the fundamentals on Day One and build on those skills throughout the week, with instructors working alongside them—asking questions, offering guidance, and helping them think through challenges. The pottery wheel is also a primary on Thursday and Friday, introducing campers to both handbuilding and wheel throwing in a structured, approachable way.

Glazing is included and completed after camp once pieces are fired.
